A new conversation can continue a project using Magistr’s saved records. Resuming the exact old conversation is a separate action and depends on the agent that owns it.
First open the correct project with Magistr connected. If another session is working there, coordinate file ownership and preserve its changes.
Resume work in a fresh conversation
Ask:
Read Magistr’s current context, the selected objective, remaining tasks, recorded decisions, and checks. Compare them with the current files and explain where to resume before editing.
The agent should find unfinished work rather than reconstruct it from memory. It should retain completed tasks and earlier failures, inspect changes made since the last session, and rerun only verification affected by those changes.
The next skill resumes interrupted roadmap work before selecting a ready
chunk. Inspect saved plans in the project terminal:
magistr plans .
magistr plans . --status active
magistr next --continue continues the selected unfinished objective and
task plan. Use it only when you intend that work to continue.
Return to a saved conversation
For conversations launched through Magistr, list saved sessions:
magistr sessions --limit 10
Resume one from its original working directory. Replace SESSION_ID with an
ID from the listing:
magistr run --resume SESSION_ID "Read the current work and continue."
To use the most recent saved conversation for that working copy:
magistr run --continue "Read the current work and continue."
These commands start an agent turn. A saved conversation must support resume, belong to the current working directory, and use its owning agent. Magistr refuses a mismatched provider or directory instead of silently opening a different conversation.
For conversations started directly in Codex or Claude Code, use that host’s history and resume controls. They are not automatically imported into Magistr’s conversation list.
Change agents
Connect the new agent to the same project, open a new conversation, and ask it to read the saved work. Roadmap records, reasoning, work plans, checks, and feedback can be shared through Magistr.
The previous agent’s entire transcript, authentication, and model settings do not transfer. A fresh conversation can still continue the task from the recorded project evidence.
Use the desktop
In the desktop preview, select a saved conversation to return to it. Saved drafts belong to their conversation. New session starts a conversation; Stop cancels its current turn; Close session ends that session.
Changing the visible conversation does not stop another conversation’s work. Read its status before issuing a conflicting request.
Recover carefully
If records appear missing, check the project directory, project identity, and data-directory settings before creating replacement work. If a session still owns the project, use its normal controls to finish or close it.
A renamed folder may retain shared project records while its saved conversations still refer to the old path. Storage explains that limitation. Troubleshooting covers connection and interrupted-attempt failures.
